Chamber Music Program

CYSO’s Chamber Music program, under the direction of Dr. Donald DeRoche, is a selective program open to students participating in CYSO's Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra members who desire training in the art of small ensemble playing. The ensemble curriculum is comprehensive and includes weekly professional coaching, special performance opportunities and a masterclass series which has recently included the Canadian Brass, Pacifica String Quartet, Amelia Piano Trio, the University of Illinois Woodwind Quartet, and Third Coast Percussion.

CYSO Chamber Music ensembles have recently performed for First Lady Michelle Obama, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, the 2012 Nobel Laureates, and perform regularly on WFMT's Introductions series.  CYSO Chamber Music ensembles have also performed for the inaugurations of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Illinois State Treasure Alexi Giannoulias; have performed for live broadcasts on the national broadcast series, From the Top and WFMT’s Impromptu series. They have been seen on ABC, NBC, CBS and WGN newscasts; performed the national anthem for the WBNA Chicago Sky; and placed in the Junior Division of the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

All members of the Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra, in addition to other musicians who specifically audition for Chamber Music are allowed to participate.

My CYSO Story

I have so much enjoyed playing with Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras. I have had so many great experiences while performing and rehearsing with CYSO groups.
