The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras announces the following artistic position for the 2008-09 Season:

Principal Players String Coach in Residence

The Principal Players program is part of CYSO’s education/engagement program, Music Pathways, and features three chamber ensembles - a string quartet, a woodwind quintet and a brass quintet.  The fall semester focuses on intensive study of chamber repertoire; the spring semester focuses on preparing and performing educational performance-demonstrations in several Chicago Public School elementary students.

Duties
The String Coach works directly with the Operations and Education Coordinator and with students enrolled in the Principal Players String Quartet, and also works in conjunction with the other Principal Players coaches.  Duties include weekly chamber music coaching, repertoire programming, library duties associated with chosen repertoire, producing progress reports and absence reports for each ensemble, attendance at Training Seminars, student performances, and occasional meetings.  The project involves twenty-five rehearsals plus one chamber recital and two in-school performance days at Chicago Public Elementary Schools. There may be additional community engagement performances for Principal Players ensembles, and these events are scheduled as opportunities arise throughout the season.

Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Music, Masters preferred; teaching and group coaching experience or equivalent experience working with youth; performance experience in chamber ensembles highly valued; ability to work independently and to meet deadlines; detail-oriented; enthusiasm for youth education and community outreach.

Compensation: $1,250 for entire project
