Neighborhood Steel Ensembles

CYSO has partnered with community organizations and schools around Chicago to create neighborhood-based steelpan ensembles. Steelpan–also called the steel drum– is one of the most exciting and accessible percussion instruments. Originating in the Caribbean, the steelpan plays everything from pop to classical to traditional Calypso music.

Open to students 9-13 | No experience necessary! | $25 tuition covers entire school year

Steel Orchestra Students

In this program students will not only gain musical knowledge and technical abilities, they will also learn firsthand the importance of working together as a team, personal responsibility, and commitment.  Young musicians will experience the thrill of performing for an audience and, as they advance, will have the opportunity to serve as mentors. Students are also eligible to try out for CYSO’s on-site Steel Orchestras program.
