A tremendous thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday, May 22 at Orchestra Hall. After a season of hard work and dedication, students ended the season on the highest of high notes. From Philharmonic Orchestra’s energetic opening performance of Overture to Le roi d’Ys all the way through Symphony Orchestra’s impassioned performance of Mahler’s Symphony no. 1 Titan, it was a night we won’t soon forget!
Thank you to Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Bernard Rands, who joined us for the world premiere of AURA, commissioned by CYSO as part of our new Composers-in-Residence program.
And a special congratulations to Concerto Competition winner Kaylee Kim, who dazzled in her performance of Wieniawski’s 2nd Violin Concerto.
Congratulations as well to this year’s CYSO award winners! Student awards included Taki Salameh and Anika Veda, recipients of the Mollendorf Award; Adam Kipp, recipient of the Albert Pick III Award; and Nicholas Boettcher, recipient of the Music Directors Award.
We also presented this year’s Music Inspiration Award to Glenbard East’s Timothy Fawkes, who was nominated by Accelerando Strings’ Danielle Diaz.
And finally, Illinois Council of Orchestras’ Executive Director (and former CYSO Operations Manager!) Kaytie Faries presented CYSO with the 2021 Youth Orchestra of the Year award.
And be sure to join us back at Symphony Center on June 19 for our Tour Kick-Off Concert and Festival featuring a special Alumni Play-Along Finale in honor of CYSO’s 75th anniversary. Find out more and RSVP for your FREE tickets now!
