Symphony Orchestra clarinetist Louis Auxenfans has been a member of CYSO for many years, but the 2020-2021 season was different than any before it. Due to the pandemic, all CYSO ensembles gathered remotely on Zoom each week to rehearse for the two out of the season’s three concert cycles. It until the spring when some members of Symphony Orchestra—divided into smaller pods—were able to begin meeting in person and record their spring performance at Orchestra Hall.
Louis reflected on the changes and challenges—as well as the new learning opportunities—the past season offered, offering his own perspective as a student as well as speaking with Music Director Allen Tinkham and Director of Operations Madalyne Tregellas Maxwell. Listen to the story below or on U-High Midway, the student paper for University of Chicago Lab School where Louis attends.
