Blurring the Lines Between Art & Technology: CYSO Virtual Reality Collaboration

CYSO recently partnered with digital agency Isobar to take an innovative spin on traditional art forms and expose our students to emerging technologies. In tandem with pioneering artist Teek Mach, we explored a live collaboration between music and painting in virtual reality with Google Tilt Brush, blurring the lines between technology and the arts.
Under the direction of Maestro Tinkham, the Symphony Orchestra string section gathered together in Curtiss Hall on a Sunday afternoon earlier this spring. Performing Barber’s Adagio for Strings, students played while Teek “painted” in real time in response to the music. Watch an overview of the performance below.

The collaboration is young and we’re still in the early stages of figuring out how best to present it to the world, but we’re excited to see where this project takes us in the future!
