In 1962, Mayor Richard J. Daley declared “Youth Orchestra of Greater Chicago Day” in the city of Chicago. This honor was bestowed upon CYSO in recognition of our work with young musicians around Chicago and for our commitment to high quality music education.
While we may have a new name these days, we would never pass up a chance to celebrate our musical community! Now observed on the 4th Thursday of April, whether you’re a CYSO student, alumni, parent, or superfan, today is about honoring what CYSO means to you. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate this special day, we’ve got you covered!
Download our CYSO Day Coloring Page
This year’s CYSO Day activity is inspired by our iconic entryway mural, painted in 2021 by artist Javier Suárez. The mural celebrates the energy that takes over CYSO every rehearsal day, and to celebrate, we created a coloring sheet using the mural artwork. You’re invited to download and print the coloring sheet, decorate it as you see fit, then return you finished product to the CYSO office or email us a photo of your work to receive a special prize!
