CYSO Award Applications are Open!

Each year, CYSO presents present awards to both students and educators at our spring Orchestra Hall concert. Each season we honor one educator who inspires and challenges their students, along with exceptional CYSO musicians who have shown leadership and commitment to music excellence. Nominations are now open for this season’s awards. Submissions are due by Sunday, March 11. 

EDUCATOR AWARD

 
MUSIC INSPIRATION AWARD
The student-nominated Music Inspiration Award was created to honor those who inspire and encourage our CYSO musicians. Each year we present this award to one educator at our Spring Orchestra Hall concert.  Please limit your nominations to private teachers and school directors.

STUDENT AWARDS

 

LUMINARTS PERFORMANCE AWARDS
This award is given to up to three CYSO students who are high school juniors or seniors to help further their musicial study in pursuit of a professional career in music performance. Made possible by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation at the Union League Club of Chicago, award selections are based on students’ musical excellence and leadership as well as their participation and loyalty to CYSO.

MOLLENDORF AWARD
The $1000 Mollendorf Award is given to a graduating senior to support further musical study. It is given through an endowment fund by the late Jean Mollendorf, Founder and Past President of the CYSO Board of Directors.   The award winner is selected based on musical excellence and active participation in CYSO, as well as musical leadership and dedication to musical progress for themselves and others.

ALBERT PICK III AWARD 
The Pick Award is open to current high school students who have participated in CYSO for at least two consecutive years. This award is inspired by the memory of Albert Pick III for his love of the students of CYSO and passionate commitment of service to his community. Students do not have to plan to study music collegiality to be eligible for this award. It is given to a well-rounded individual to be used to keep music a creative and joyful part of the recipient’s life. Criteria include commitment to CYSO, demonstrated service to the community, and dedication to music appreciation.
