CYSO Jazz Orchestra Director Pharez Whitted Profiled in Chicago Tribune

CYSO’s new Jazz Orchestra Director, Pharez Whitted, is not only a respected music educator, he’s also a gifted musician and bandleader in his own right. Whitted was recently profiled by the Chicago Tribune about his new role at CYSO, some of his collaborators, and upcoming performances.

“Few Chicago musician-educators are more qualified than Whitted to build the new band, for he commands a richly deserved reputation as a trumpet virtuoso, seasoned educator and irrepressible champion of the music.”

Whitted talks about the new Jazz Orchestra and the excitement he feels about the students he will reach in his new role with CYSO:

“The beautiful thing about this program is we’re able to include students from all over the area,” says Whitted. “If they can make it, they can participate. So I’m hoping to have a very diverse crew of students, and the talent level should be exceptional. And the music that we’ll cover is going to include traditional as well as contemporary…The sky’s the limit.”
