This summer, CYSO students are taking over the National Youth Orchestra (NYO) and its sister ensemble NYO2! A whopping nine CYSO students will participate in these two prestigious programs this year, the most we’ve ever had.
Three CYSO students and one recent alum were accepted into this year’s NYO orchestra. Congratulations to Symphony Orchestra members Aidan Daniels, William Lewis, Taki Salemeh and Adriana Koch (’21)! Established by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, NYO is a summer orchestral program that brings together students ages 16-19 from around the United States. Musicians have the opportunity to work with leading conductors and players from major symphonies across the US and the festival culminates in a European tour under the baton of Daniel Harding and with guest cellist Alisa Weilerstein.
In addition, five CYSO students were accepted to NYO2, a sister ensemble that focuses on recruiting musicians from communities that are underrepresented in classical music. Participating musicians have the opportunity to work closely with top players from American orchestras and conservatories during a residency at Purchase College, State University of New York. Congratulations to Symphony Orchestra members Lisa Kazami, Zachary Allen, Sophia Luong, Hayden Joyce, and Calleigh Riordan!
We are so proud of our students who exemplify CYSO’s mission of excellence!
