During fall and winter of 2014, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) and Third Coast Percussion partnered in a residency to bring David T. Little’s Radiant Child to the public through a performance and recording, as well as provide mentorship to young musicians and composers through masterclasses and workshops. As a part of this residency, CYSO’s Encore Chamber Orchestra and the ground-breaking ensemble Third Coast Percussion performed Radiant Child on December 7, 2014 at the Harris Theater in Chicago. This was just the second public performance of this work for percussion quartet and chamber orchestra.
In order to expand the audience for this collaboration even further, CYSO and Third Coast Percussion created a video recording of the work on December 9, 2014 in Chicago. This video of Radiant Child is significant as it represents the first time the piece has been recorded, either as an audio or video recording.
