It’s been 5 years since CYSO last performed with Anthony & Demarre McGill. Back in 2012, we commissioned composer Joel Puckett to write Concerto Duo for Symphony Orchestra to perform with the McGills at our spring Orchestra Hall concert. Now we’ll be performing Concerto Duo alongside the new work by Michael Abels at our June 16 concert with the McGills. This time we’ll take the stage at the Fine Arts Building’s Studebaker Theater, a place that holds lots of memories for the McGills, who were part of our orchestra in the 1990s.
In this 2012 interview with Demarre and Anthony, so much of what they discuss still applies– from their memories of CYSO (“Chicago Youth Symphony is a big part of our Chicago family”) to their advice to young musicians (“Follow your passion” and “Know what you’re striving for.”)
Don’t forget to reserve your free tickets to Saturday’s concert!
