June is LGBTQIA+ Pride month! All year round, we at CYSO celebrate diversity and inclusion, but this month we wanted to give special attention to the queer members of our community who haven’t always seen themselves reflected in the mainstream narrative of classical music. To honor the wide world of LGBTQIA+ composers and performers, we’ve compiled a Pride Playlist!
This playlist features composers and performers from across the musical spectrum. There are familiar names you might recognize, such as Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, and Jennifer Higdon, and new names you might not be as familiar with, such as David Diamond, Nico Muhly, and Pauline Oliveros. We’ve included all sorts of compositions spanning all different time periods and genres of music history from Baroque all the way to today.
