Rafael Noriega & Aidan Daniels Accepted to National Youth Orchestra


Congratulations to Symphony Orchestra members Rafael Noriega and Aidan Daniels on their acceptance to this year’s National Youth Orchestra (NYO)!

Bass trombonist Rafael Noriega has been a member of CYSO since 2018, performing in Philharmonic before joining Symphony Orchestra. He is a senior at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy in Chicago. Last summer, Rafael participated in the NYO-USA program and the summer before that, he was a member of NYO2. Rafael was also CYSO’s nominee for the 2020 Rising Star Honor Roll.

Violinist Aidan is a junior at Providence Catholic High School in Joliet. He is a long time member of CYSO, beginning in Debut Orchestra in 2016 and rising through Concert and Philharmonic before joining Symphony Orchestra this season. Aidan participated in the NYO2 program last summer. Both Aidan and Rafael are also Chicago Musical Pathways fellows.

This summer, Aidan and Rafael will spend three weeks on the campus of Purchase College for the orchestra residency followed by a performance at Carnegie Hall and a tour. The 2021 guest conductor is Carlos Miguel Prieto and CYSO alum and Seattle Symphony Principal Flute Demarre McGill will be on faculty.

Noah Jung, a clarinet player and former member of CYSO, was also accepted to this summer’s NYO orchestra.
