The CYSO Composition Seminar provides student composers with the opportunity to develop their compositional voice through improvisation, listening exercises, score analysis, historical analysis and private composition lessons. All Composition Seminar student works are read and recorded by a professional chamber ensemble during a session in the fall. In the spring, CYSO’s Philharmonic Orchestra reads and records short orchestral pieces by the student composers.
The Composition Seminar is geared toward primarily high school age students in Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Accelerando Strings, and Jazz Orchestra. Students interested in participating in the Composition Seminar must demonstrate a base line level of music theory comprehension before enrolling.
