Congratulations to Alexis Johnson, who was recently awarded a Sphinx Organization MPower Artist Grant to attend the Philadelphia International Music Festival Soloists Ensemble Program! Alexis has been a member of CYSO since 2007, beginning in Preparatory Strings as a third grader. Since then she has moved through Debut and Concert Orchestras, and is currently in her first season with Symphony Orchestra. Alexis has studied cello for 13 years and is a junior at Rosary Catholic High School in Aurora.
The Soloists Ensemble Program Alexis will attend takes place this summer. The program gives students the opportunity to perform as part of small ensembles, as well as as principals and soloists within those groups. During the two-week session they will also have the opportunity to attend masterclasses will members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

“Alexis is a great example of a student who moved up through the ranks at CYSO,” CYSO Operations Manager, Madalyne Tregellas, said. “She’s been part of our orchestras for nine seasons now, and her growth and maturity as a musician has been wonderful to watch over the years. Not to mention what a great kid she is to have as part of the orchestra.”
Congrats to Alexis!
