Earlier this year, we shared the exciting news about the release of “Gershwin’s Magic Key,” a new album from Classical Kids Live! featuring CYSO’s Symphony Orchestra. This family-friendly exploration of George Gershwin’s life and music has been receiving rave reviews and winning awards left and right. We’re also exciting that the album will be eligible for the first round of GRAMMY award voting later this month (fingers crossed!).
“Gershwin’s Magic Key” has received recognition from multiple organizations within the US and has received high praise from critics and listeners alike. A review from the Tillywig BRAIN CHILD Award states:
“This powerhouse blend of top-notch storytelling and musical entertainment proves to be a delightful way for the entire family to learn about the life, times and music of George Gershwin. The recording sets a vibrant tone from the outset, expertly mingling dynamic dialogue with soaring orchestral segments and musical effects to convey an historic adventure in the making. […] Liberally sprinkled throughout the joyful 50-minute story are excerpts from more than two dozen of Gershwin’s most popular compositions expertly performed by the top tier orchestra of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras.”
Other awards include the Family Choice Awards, Mom’s Choice GOLD Awards, National Parenting Product Award, Academics’ Choice Smart Media Award, Creative Child Magazine CD of the Year Award, and Academics’ Choice Smart Media Award Winner.
“This story was engaging, fun, and inviting for all of my kids, ages 13-16. The production was first class, and the plot was compelling. As a homeschooling mother who happens to have four string players involved in the local youth symphony, I absolutely love Classics for Kids. My children enjoyed learning more about the composer, and found the story fun and engaging!”

CYSO’s partnership with Classical Kids Live has included multiple live performances, but this is the first time we’ve participated in a professional recording of one of their unique stage productions. We’re thrilled at the opportunity to expose young people around the world to a performance from CYSO’s young musicians.
