The Ambassadors Program combines leadership development for CYSO Chamber Music students with our commitment to Community Partnerships that reach Chicago Public Schools students in neighborhoods with limited access to arts programming. As Ambassadors, CYSO Chamber Music ensembles, made up of high school musicians from across the Chicago region, curate educational presentations for elementary and middle school age students who are just beginning to learn instruments. The fall semester features intensive study with professional coaches of traditional chamber repertoire carefully selected to develop important ensemble skills. Then in the spring, students develop their school presentations, which combine performance as well as activities and demonstrations to engage the student audiences. The season culminates with Ambassador presentations at CPS elementary schools.
For the CPS students in attendance, Ambassadors programs are often the first time they’ve experienced live music created by young people, and may be their very first experience with live music in general. Student audiences learn about music in a way that’s accessible and engaging. As Ambassadors, CYSO students develop important leadership and presentation skills, as well as learning cultural competence and the importance of giving back through music.
